June 5th - 8th 2026
Our annual weekend escape to Forster delivered plenty of laughs, good company, and just enough fish to keep things interesting. While the weather didn’t exactly roll out the red carpet, everyone made the most of it.
On the Water
The seas offshore were angry—properly stirred up—yet a few brave boats still punched their way out. Inside the lake, the fishing proved tough, but there were some standout efforts:
Mal found the magic early, landing six flathead on the first morning.
Bec and Ron stuck with lures and were rewarded with some quality bream.
Those fishing bait battled relentless pickers, though a handful of solid bream, flathead, and trevally still made it to the net.
On day two, Dave and Ann Gerard cracked the code, finding enough flathead for a very respectable feed.
Land-Based Fishing
Land-based anglers had to work hard too. There was no shortage of small fish to keep the rods bending, but the catch of the weekend—by unanimous decision—was the battered flake from the local fish and chip shop. Sometimes you just have to know when to outsource.
Offshore
For those who ventured outside, the rewards were modest but tasty:
A few snapper and trag were landed.
Plenty of mixed reef species, which Andreas insists are excellent eating—and we’ll take his word for it. Whatever floats your boat.
Social Highlights
As always, the social side of the trip was a winner. It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout.
Friday night: Dinner at the Forster Golf Club.
Saturday: Footy at the pub with a lively crew.
Sunday: A brilliant club dinner and presentation hosted by Mick, Andreas, and Geoff at their rental house—great food, great company, and plenty of laughs.
A Huge Thank You
A massive thank you goes to Dave Nash, who once again coordinated the weekend flawlessly. Dave always goes above and beyond—sharing local knowledge, pointing everyone to the best spots, and doing everything he can to make the trip memorable. Maybe next time we’ll actually listen to him.
