Freshwater Event Jan 2026

Spring Farm and Fish Anywhere
Report by Michael Markich

Australia Day weekend, Saturday at Springs Lake, Spring Farm.

The day was stinking hot but 20 members and possible new members turned up in the hope of catching a big bass. The day started promising with my son Cameron catching a 25cm bass first cast and Kurt Forrester had a follow on his second cast and then after that it was a 100 casts probably before Kurt caught the next fish at 26cm. Shortly after that I hooked up and it hit like a freight train. I got a glimpse of it before it spat the hook but it was well into the 30cm range. Shortly after that kurt caught another at 25cm. The rest of the club members got sore arms from casting so we called it a day a headed back to my place a bit earlier for home made hamburgers, chicken burgers and beverages.

Next time I will have dinner first and fish after into the dark as they seem to bite better on sunset. We were all too cooked to go back after dinner as it was so hot in the middle of the day. Even though the fishing was a bit slow it was a great social day with the BBQ and a chat around the tables in the back yard. Can't wait to do it again but next time it will be planned a bit different. Members that attended were Michael Withford , Benjamin Withford , Roy Wartmann , Peter Bylsma , Kurt Forrester , Chris Meadows , Blake Meadows , Cristy Dickson, Clint Dickson , Selby Harris, Cameron Markich, Jayden Markich, Dianne Markich, James Pace and Partner Danielle, camerons friends Dillon and Ricky, my friends Matthew Howard and children Riley Howard and Brody Howard and myself . Also Bec Fazio had a good day up north as you can see in her post earlier this week.
